  3. About the AppleShare IP 5.0 Companion CD-ROM Disc

  5. The AppleShare IP 5.0 Companion CD-ROM disc contains powerful application software that complements the features of AppleShare IP. These fully functional applications were developed by companies that provide innovative software designed to enhance workgroup productivity and management.

  7. This disc contains the following applications:

  9. • AppleShare Client for Windows 1.0.2. AppleShare Client for Windows allows Window 3.1 and Workgroup users to use AppleTalk to connect to an AppleShare IP Web & File Server for Ethernet, Token Ring, and LocalTalk. For software that provides similar functionality for Windows 95 users, see the COPSTalk CD-ROM disc, which is included with the AppleShare IP product.

  11. •Claris Home Page 2.0 . Claris Home Page makes it easy to create and publish your Web site's files with advanced features, such as Frames, Tables, Libraries. You can create interactive sites using Java applets, multimedia plug-ins (including Shockwave and QuickTime), and form tools.

  13. •Claris Emailer 2.0. Claris Emailer is a client e-mail application that supports POP and SMTP over AppleTalk and TCP/IP.

  15. • Vicom Internet Gateway 3.8.3. The Internet Gateway is a software router application that runs on a single Macintosh and interconnects local-area networks and wide-area networks to each other and to the Internet. The gateway allows multiple computers to share a single Internet connection and a single IP address at the same time. For best performance, install and run the Vicom Internet Gateway on a computer that is dedicated for that purpose.

  17. •LogDoor 1.1. The LogDoor Web Site Monitor provides real-time, Web-based, site-specific access information using information stored in the AppleShare IP HTTP Log file.

  19. •Server Manager 4.0. Server Manager adds remote management capabilities to AppleShare IP. It allows you to monitor the operating status of AppleShare IP, connected users, server usage, user connections, mounted volumes, disk usage, and cache performance. It can notify you of computer down, AppleShare IP down, disk space low, incorrect time, activity too high, idle users, users connected too long, and backup overdue conditions by E-mail, page, sound, and screen display.

  23. As you install and use the software on this CD-ROM, please keep in mind the following information:

  25. • By installing an application, you agree to adhere to any applicable software license agreements.

  27. • Before installing, verify that you have enough memory and hard disk space. System requirements are described in the documentation that accompanies each product.

  29. •     Use standard precautions when installing and evaluating the software provided on this disc. It’s safest to install new software after you have backed up your system.

  31. •     Be sure to read the information about each product and to follow the accompanying instructions carefully to ensure that you install all necessary server and client software correctly. Detailed documentation for each product is provided within each application folder.

  33. •     To ensure good AppleShare server performance, it is recommended that some of  following software be installed on a separate computer. This is especially recommended for the IP Gateway software.
